Virginia Brown, 86, passed away in Tallahassee on Dec. 10, 2007.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Lake Hall recreation area in Maclay Gardens State Park in Tallahassee.
Mrs. Brown was born June 22,1921 in Columbus, Ohio to Ernest and Mary Peer Thomas. She lived in Canal Winchester, Ohio; Bedford, Ohio; and Aurora, Illinois when her husband served as superintendent of schools in those communities and was his devoted partner.
The couple retired to Gatlinburg, Tennessee before moving to Apalachicola in 2003. She was a homemaker, member of the Kiwanis Auxiliary (K-Ladies), and a Red Cross and hospital volunteer during her lifetime. She loved cooking, gardening, sewing and knitting and was active in the Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; her three brothers, Paul, Kenneth, and Harold; and her son, Ruel Harlen Brown.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Frank; daughter Beth Blair and son-in-law Curt; a granddaughter Joy Adele Stubbs and husband Chuck; a grandson, Ruel William Smith and wife Amy; and three great grandchildren, Charlie and Mary Harlen Stubbs and Ruel Alden Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd. Tallahassee, FL, 32308.
