Olen E. "Gene" Hobbs, 83, of Eastpoint, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, in Panama City.
Gene was from a pioneer family of Bay County and a lifetime resident of Panama City, Fla., until his retirement to Eastpoint. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the State of Florida Department of Agriculture, from which he retired. He was a member of Bay Masonic Lodge 337 and Shaddai Temple.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Alla Verne Hobbs; brother, Emory Gay Hobbs; and first wife, Carolyn. He is survived by his wife, Lou; sons, Larry Hobbs and Steve Hobbs; stepson, Jack Foley (Karen); stepdaughters, Betty Shiver (Peanut) and Allison Brown (Mike); sister, Anne Walker (Joe); brother, BoBo Hobbs (Gail); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Feb. 14 at First Baptist Church of Eastpoint. Funeral services were held Feb. 15 at First Baptist Church of Eastpoint. Interment is at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Panama City. Kelley Funeral Home of Apalachicola was in charge of arrangements.
