Florence M. Swindoll, 91, of Valdosta, GA. passed away on Feb. 19, 2008, after a short illness at the Langdale Hospice House.
Born in Apalachicola on June 30, 1916, she was the daughter of Mary Reese and John Scarabin.
She is survived by her three sisters, Mary Louise Hubner, of Ft. Walton Beach, Anne Mapp, of Seattle, WA, and Sister Mary Doloretta, née Cecilia Scarabin; two children, daughter Mary Ann Moye of Donalsonville, GA; son, Joseph Lawless Barrientos, Jr., of Centennial, CO.; 10 grandchildren, Edwin Williams, III of Atlanta, GA; Cason Williams (wife, Leisa) of Valdosta, GA; Ginny Kirkland (husband, Lawson) of Valdosta, GA; Bruce Moye of Bainbridge, GA; Rex Moye of Bainbridge, GA; Thomas Moye of West Palm Beach; David Moye of West Palm Beach; Shelly Moreland (husband, Mark) of Kennesaw, GA; Joseph Lawless Barrientos, III (wife, Jenny) of Pueblo, CO; and Ashley Barrientos (wife, Rachel) of Madison, GA; and 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Swindoll was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joseph Lawless Barrientos, Sr., originally of Donaldsonville, LA; her second husband Al Swindoll of Tampa, FL; three brothers; John Scarabin, Edward Scarabin and Lester Scarabin, all of Apalachicola; her oldest daughter Carolyn Barrientos Williams of Valdosta; and one grandson, Michael Moye of Bainbridge, GA.
Mrs. Swindoll, affectionately known as Mémé by her grandchildren, was a remarkable woman. At a time when single-parents were rare, she found herself a young widow with three small children. She moved back home and quickly found a job with the state of Florida, where she worked until she retired.
After raising her three children, she married again. She was an accomplished seamstress, who showered her children and grandchildren with many beautiful homemade items such as quilts, clothes and dolls. She was very devoted to her friends, family and church, St. John's Catholic Church in Valdosta..
Funeral services were held on Feb. 21, in Valdosta in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Father Dan O'Connell officiating.
